Ariu Ceramiche is the Cagliari-based workshop of Cristina and Stefania Ariu, two artisans originally from the village of Mogoro, Sardinia. Inspired by their memories of childhood, their ceramics are the result of a research on materials, shapes and symbols. Bixinau (the Sardinian word for neighbourhood), their latest project using fire-clay, is an homage to the women of their home village; it is a narration in which each character, Is Bixiasa (the women of the neighbourhood), is alive and plays an essential part in the life of the Sardinian neighbourhood. The idea is to recreate the atmosphere of everyday life in the neighbourhood, where the absence of colours aside from black and white wants to draw attention to the gesture.
